There are a plethora of different statues that have been built all over the world dating back to the ancient times. The main purpose of building a statue is to honor the greatest people in the world who have done good for a nation and the people of that land. Let us list our 10 tallest statues in the world right now for you.

10. Grand Buddha, Lingshan

Location: Binhu District, Wuxi, China.

The Lingshan Giant Buddha is located on Xiaoling Mountain on the edge of Taihu Lake in Wuxi. The statue has a height of 88 meters, completely made of bronze, weighs 700 tons, it features wonderful attractions including the Brahma Palace, Five Mudra Mandala, Nine Dragons Bathing Sakyamuni, Xiangfu Temple and many other Buddhist sites.

9. Great Buddha of Thailand

Location: Wat Muang, Chai Chan, Ang Thong, Thailand.

Great Buddha is the highest statue in Thailand and it is ranked as the ninth tallest statue in the world. Great Buddha of Thailand is located in Ang Thong province. Also popular as Phra Buddha Maha Nawamin, this statue is 92 meters tall and 63 meters wide.

8. Peter the Great Statue

Location: Moscow, Russia.

One of the most controversial sculptures in Moscow is the massive statue of Peter the Great by the sculptor Zurab Tsereteli. In total the whole structure is 98 metres high and depicts Peter the Great standing on a ship. Moscow should be paying tribute to Peter the Great.

 

7. Sendai Daikannon

Location: Sendai, Miyagi Prefecture, Japan.

This huge Sendai Daein is located in the northern part of Sendai City, 100 metres (330 ft). Due to the large size of the statue, it looks like a strange world in Sendai City. It can enter the interior of the Guanyin image, and the interior is divided into 12 layers for the statue of 108 Buddha statues. You can also take the elevator to the top floor, from the market in Sendai to the Pacific Ocean.

 

6. Emperors Yan and Huang

Location: Henan, China.

monument that was carved from a mountain on the Yellow River. The construction lasted 20 years and was completed in 2007. The overall monument height is 106 meters, a 55-meter base platform with 51-meter busts on top. They depict two of the earliest Chinese emperors, Yan Di and Huang Di.

The tall one in the sculpture is the Yan Di and the short one is the Huang Di. The upper part is made of real stone from Taihang Mountain, and the lower part has the mountain as the body.

The Yan Emperor or the Flame Emperor was a legendary ancient Chinese ruler in pre-dynastic times. Huangdi, personal name Gongsun Xuanyuan, nicknamed Yellow Emperor was the first emperor and leader of China. He was also a god in Chinese folk religion, and titled Five Forms of the Highest Deity.

5. Guanyin of Nanshan

Location: Jiyang District, Sanya, Sanya, Hainan, China.

The Guanyin of Nanshan is a 108-metre (354 ft) statue of the bodhisattva Guanyin, sited on the south coast of China’s island, became the 5th most largest statues in the world. The statue took around six years to build and was enshrined on April 24, 2005. The statue has three aspects: one side faces inland and the other two face the South China Sea, to represent blessing and protection by Guanyin of China and the whole world.

4. Ushiku Daibutsu

Location: Ushiku, Japan.

This Buddhist statue located in Ushiku, Ibaraki Prefecture in Japan. The height of this Buddhist statue is 120 meters tall with a 10-meter lotus throne and an additional 10-meter base. The statue is made in bronze and was completed in  1993. The statue is a tribute to the birth of Shinran, the founder of the Jodo Shinshu of Buddhism.

3. Laykyun Setkyar

Location: Khatakan Taung, near Monywa, Myanmar. 

Laykyun Setkyar Buddha statue (Bodhi Ta Htaung) is 424 feet (129 m) high with thirty one floors, located in Sagaing Region. It is the second largest Buddha statue in the world. Construction of the statue was finished in 2008. This religious site consists of a thousand of sitting Buddha images beneath the bodhi trees.

2. Spring Temple Buddha

Location: Henan, China.

This statue of was established in the year 2002 in place of Lu’an in Henan province of China. The height of the statue is about 153 meters.  It’s made of 108 kilograms of gold, 3,300 ton of copper alloy and 15,000 ton of steel. put it this way, to reach the statue of this tallest Buddha, you have to endure a total of about a 1000 staircases. So you better be fit and healthy!

1. Statue of Unity

Location: Near Narmada Dam, Rajpipla, Gujarat.

The Statue of Unity is a monument dedicated to Indian independence movement leader Vallabhbhai Patel. It is the world’s tallest statue with the height of 182 metres, located in the Indian state of Gujarat . It is located facing the Narmada Dam , 3.2 km (2.0 mi) away on the river island called Sadhu Bet near Rajpipla in Gujarat. The Statue was designed by Padma Bhushan recipient sculptor Ram.V Sutar, The Statue of Unity is build to withstand wind velocity up to 60 m/sec, vibration and earthquakes.
