The U.S. Air National Guard’s 190th Fighter Squadron commemorated the unit’s 75th anniversary in May with an A-10 Thunderbolt II painted to resemble the P-47 Thunderbolt the squadron flew during World War II. The “Heritage Hawg” paint scheme features black-and-white invasion stripes like those painted on aircraft the evening of June 4, 1944, used to help American anti-aircraft gunners differentiate between Allied and enemy fighters during the D-Day invasion.
